More about Merry England

Houses in St Ives Cornwall
We have been very taken with the different types of architecture in the various counties- Michele was saying that each county even has its own distinctive pattern for the farm gates & indeed we did find that as we were driving around & I just thought that the same gate maker had been responsible for a few of the gates we saw.

Lands End Cornwall
The homes are just like something out of a postcard- which is probably where postcards came from! Many of the houses are terraced and have been built as council houses for workers.  The ones in Cornwall are very distinctive.  Cornwall is a fascinating area as the local dialect is still spoken in parts and the coastline is very harsh and rugged.  The old industries were tin mining and fishing and it's easy to imagine that life would have been very difficult.

We have always wanted to go to Lands End and it was certainly worth the trip. Bill took a photo of me to celebrate as he had taken one of me at Cape Leeuwin, southern most part of Australia, for our 30th anniversary.
